Templates, menus and media

Use a starting design without confusing shared settings, public images and private product files.

Start with a template

A template is a starting set of website content and design, not a separate hosted website. Choose the available starting template when creating your website, then edit its content in Pages. There is no general dashboard import or switch-template action for replacing an existing website. Replace example text, products and navigation before publishing. Templates do not connect your provider accounts or turn on automated video emails for you.

Keep the design simple: a clear headline, one primary next step and a product visitors can understand. Change content through Pages and brand choices through Settings rather than trying to edit generated code.

Open the menu editor linked from Pages or the navigation settings. Add the label and destination for each item and arrange them in the desired order. Check the public menu at phone width as well as desktop. A hidden or unpublished destination is not made public by adding a menu link.

System pages, including customer access and legal pages, have their own configured addresses. If you change an address, update links you have written manually in pages or email templates too. Do not assume an old external link will be repaired automatically.

Upload the right kind of media

Use public images for covers and page illustrations, and private files for deliverable product downloads. Public image URLs can be viewed by anyone who has the address; they are not a way to protect a paid product. A product's file is delivered only after its access check.

Choose media from the selected website's picker. Files from another website are not interchangeable. Before removing media, check pages and products that use it. Storage usage includes responsive image variants, not just the original upload size.

Troubleshooting

If an image is absent, check that it was uploaded as the correct type and selected in the saved content. If the old design is still live, publish the page and verify that you edited the right website. If uploads are blocked, check the file validation message, storage allowance and account state rather than repeatedly uploading copies.
