Connect and troubleshoot a domain

Use your free address or attach your own domain on an eligible plan.

Before changing DNS

Every website starts with a platform address. Custom domains require the relevant plan entitlement and an available slot. Domain counts are per website, not an account-wide pool. The bare domain alongside its own www hostname counts as one domain, not two unrelated websites.

Keep access to the company that manages your DNS. Connecting a website address does not transfer registration or move your mailbox. Do not delete email records merely to connect the website.

Connect the address

Follow the authoritative custom-domain walkthrough. Open Domains, add the www version of a domain you own, then copy the exact records the screen provides into your DNS provider. If you use Cloudflare, use DNS only, not a proxied record, as the guide directs.

Records vary by hostname and verification state: use the values shown for your website, not a value copied from someone else's screenshot. Some providers append your domain automatically; avoid accidentally entering it twice.

Verify the result

The platform checks DNS and provisions HTTPS. Wait for the domain and certificate status to become ready before treating the address as launched. The guide describes typical timing, not a guaranteed deadline. Open the exact primary hostname with HTTPS and check the home page, product page and legal links.

Secondary addresses redirect to the primary address. A redirect is not a second independent website. Check the primary choice if you keep landing on a different hostname than expected.

Common problems

Pending: check every required record, duplicate records, proxy state and provider propagation. Wrong site or not found: verify the exact spelling and that the domain was added to the intended website. Certificate not ready: do not bypass browser security warnings; revisit DNS and connection status. Cannot add: check eligibility, active/inactive domain rows and the effective allowance.

If changing plans, review domain warnings first. Losing custom-domain eligibility is different from exceeding the numeric count. Your platform address remains the fallback; confirm it works before changing public links.
